Global success

1 April 2019

Cardiff University’s School of Geography and Planning continues to ride high in global subject rankings, retaining a top 100 position in the 2019 QS World University Rankings by Subject for Geography.

New for 2019 is a domestic ranking which places the School 20th in the UK.

This latest recognition of the School’s teaching and research excellence echoes other recent rankings and measures. The School is currently ranked 9th in the UK (in the Geography and Environmental Studies subject area) in the 2019 Guardian University League Tables and 8th in the UK for Town and Country Planning and Landscape in The Times / Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019.

The School offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes concerned with political economic, social and environmental geographies as well as planning, development, urban design and the built environment. There is a strong emphasis on practical application of class-based theories to live, real-world scenarios, and all undergraduate programmes offer a European and International field study visit.

Wider success for Cardiff University in the QS rankings also reflects positively on the School with the Architecture/Built Landscape subject area ranking in the top 50 globally, placing 37th. The School of Geography and Planning offers a joint Master'r programme in Urban Design with the Welsh School of Architecture.
