Seedcorn Bursary Funding 2019

Congratulations to Dr Kathy Beirne, Research Associate in the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences who has been successful in securing funding for her research project as part of the first call for the CITER Seedcorn bursary 2018 - 2019. The research project title is "measuring electophysiological activity of cell culture using high resolution microelectrode array BioCAM".
This project will utilize new technology that is still in developmental stage in the UK. The research group will use electrically active hippocampal cultures and in parallel work on developing an electrically active retinal ganglion cell culture. In doing so the project will allow to expand the collaboration with an engineering company that developed technology and research collaboration in the UK and Europe.
The major project output will be “culture on chip” technology to support future grant applications in collaboration with other CITER members from CU. The technology will also be used to provide pilot data on the mechanism of action of red light therapy and novel drugs developed in discovery project in collaboration with the school of Pharmacy. The pilot data will support an independent fellowship application.
The next call for the Seedcorn bursary 2018-2019 opens on 3 May 2019.
