Peter Williams Memorial Seminar

7 October 2015

Today saw members of the CCI, Cardiff School of Chemistry and industry join to remember Dr Peter Williams who sadly passed away in 2012.

Peter was a graduate of Chemistry at Cardiff and was involved in catalysis from his beginnings as a surface scientist at Cardiff, through to manager of the industrial manufacture of commercial catalysts with Johnson Matthey.

In honour of Peter's links with Cardiff and his passion and drive with industry, Johnson Matthey graciously fund a travel bursary for Cardiff PhD students to apply for in order to attend a conference.

This year’s recipient was James Carter, a final year PhD student who used his bursary to attend the "Catalysis improving society" meeting held at the Royal Society in June.

James gave a wonderful talk on his PhD work so-far, and was joined in presenting by Prof. Mike Bowker (Cardiff) and Dr Peter Johnson (Johnson Matthey) who presented work that drew from the areas in which Peter Williams contributed.
