Professor David Williams (Microbial Diseases, School of Dentistry) and Dr Ian Fallis (School of Chemistry) were delighted to be invited to attend a recent sandpit event organised by MeDe Innovation-The EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Medical Devices. An outcome of this event was the opportunity to move forward in the development of a joint collaborative research proposal with Dr Maria Katsikogianni and Dr Ben Whiteside (University of Bradford) with the aim of innovating medical devices to prevent associated infections.  This collaborative proposal was subsequently successful in being awarded funding from MeDe Innovation.

All the researchers (also involved from  Cardiff University are Dr Athanasia Dervisi, Dr Melanie Wilson, Mr Paul Milward, Professor Sam Evans and Professor Mark Waters) involved in this collaborative venture  wanted to express their thanks to MeDe Innovation and particularly Professor Phil Coates (University of Bradford) and Professor Paul V. Hatton (University of Sheffield) for facilitating this sandpit event, and for the awarding of the grant which commenced on 1st October 2015.
