Wales in a Post-Brexit world

13 March 2019

Cardiff University’s Wales Governance Centre has announced a strong line-up of speakers for its joint event with the Welsh Centre for International Affairs on the evening of March 27th.

‘Wales in a Post-Brexit World’ will be opened by the Susie Ventris-Field, Chief Executive of the WCIA.

She will then chair an academic panel which will outline how other sub-state nations and regions conduct international relations. The panel will feature the University of Suffolk’s Dr Christopher Huggins, Dr Rachel Minto and Professor Kevin Morgan both of Cardiff University, and Dr Elin Royles of Aberystwyth University.

Following this, Sir Emyr Jones-Parry, former UK Permanent Representative to the United Nations, will give remarks on future international relations options for Wales. Eluned Morgan, the Welsh Government Minister for International Relations and the Welsh Language, will then close the evening.

The event at Cardiff’s Temple of Peace will focus discussion on Wales’ international policy options beyond Brexit. Speakers will look at how other sub-state nations and entities conduct international relations, and will consider where Wales’ diplomatic efforts should be best focussed in a post-Brexit context.

In recent months the Wales Governance Centre has facilitated a series of public events analysing the Brexit process, and continues to stimulate public debate on the implications of Brexit for Wales.
