Hayley Macgregor, a Clinical Psychology PhD student at Cardiff University recently won a Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes Award as part of a team of health professionals from University Hospital Wales.
Hayley’s team picked up the award for their Psycho-education Workshop for Parents of Children with Type 1 Diabetes, a project that aims to give comfort and reassurance to parents and guardians who often struggle with the psychological and lifestyle challenges of helping a child with type 1 diabetes.
This prestigious award was presented under the Diabetes Education Programmes, Children, Young People and Emerging Adult category. A category that recognises those teams and individuals that are working to educate and empower children, young people and emerging adults to self-manage their diabetes and stay as healthy as possible.
The workshop impressed the judging panel for the awards, which was made up of various senior healthcare professionals specialising in diabetes research and care. The panel praised Hayley and her team saying “There is a huge need for this kind of help across the country, and this project provides a model for further development of services nationally".
Hayley was thrilled to pick up the award and said, “I am so proud to have been presented with this award. Our team has worked tirelessly to help parents and guardians of children with type 1 diabetes and the issues that may arise as a result. It is an honour and a privilege to be recognised by QiC for the work we do and we will continue to strive to improve the support available for children with the condiiton.”
The awards were held on Thursday 18 October at the UK headquarters of Sanofi. Find out more about the Quality in Care Awards 2018.
