Biological Sciences at Cardiff ranks in World Top 40

Biological Sciences at Cardiff University is amongst the best in the world, according to the 2018 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).

Compiled by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, a highly respected independent organisation dedicated to research on higher education intelligence and consultations, the ARWU ranks Cardiff University Biological Sciences as 33rd in the world (out of 1200 institutions) and within the top 5 in the UK.

The ARWU is based on research strength and performance and is considered to be the most influential and widely used international ranking of the world’s research universities.

Professor Jim Murray, Head of the School of Biosciences said,

“We are very proud of our research record in the School of Biosciences, and I am delighted this has once again been recognised in the ARWU Rankings.

The School has recently invested around £10M in new laboratories and facilities, including Technology Hubs that provide our researchers with access to expertise and state-of-the-art equipment, and new infrastructure for the Medicines Discovery Institute.

Together with a several key new academic appointments, these investments will further strengthen our research capabilities and outputs.”
