Cardiff University School of Journalism, Media and Culture has been ranked seventh for Communications and Media Studies in the Times Good University Guide 2019.

The Guide, which looked at ninety-seven UK universities, also classed the School as the best in Wales.

The accolade comes after a top five place for the fifth year running in the Guardian’s University League Tables and twenty-third position globally for Communications and Media studies in the QS World Rankings by Subject.

Welcoming the news, Head of School Professor Stuart Allan said: “We are pleased to see the latest Times ranking continues to confirm our status as one of the UK’s leading Schools in our subject area.”

“This result reflects our commitment to teaching that is enriched by our research expertise and profession-led priorities across a diverse array of media in the communications realm.”

The year to date has also seen the School’s research centers and groups secure several prestigious research contracts, complemented by numerous initiatives connecting the School with a wide range of professional networks in journalism, data research, and the cultural and creative industries.

Professor Allan added, “These rankings represent important achievements, but they tell only part of the story. We also evaluate our progress based upon the growth and development of our students, and the impact of our work on the wider community.”

The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide is published annually.
