Student named as one of the most influential LGBT+ people in Wales

A student from the School of Biosciences has been commended for their work addressing issues facing the LGBT+ community.
Taz Jones, who studies Biological Sciences (Genetics) at Cardiff University was named as a rising star on Wales Online’s Pinc List 2018, ahead of Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend celebrations in Cardiff.
As well as studying, Taz worked at the Student's Union as the LGBT+ Officer, Women’s Place, and has helped to install more than ninety gender neutral toilet facilities across the University campus.
The genetics student has also helped to organise the biggest LGBT+ History Month Cardiff University Students’ Union has held, with ten events happening across the month.
Professor Daniela Riccardi, Deputy Head of School of Biosciences, said: “We are incredibly pleased to hear that Taz has been nominated to be a part of this list, celebrating the impact she has been making across the University’s campus.
“Her commitment towards bettering the landscape of University education for LGBT+ students is fantastic, and has made such a huge difference to both students and staff.
“She has been a big part of our School, acting as Student-Staff Panel Chair, helping to provide a voice for students at the School of Biosciences.
“Her work has improved the environment of the School and the University for the LGBT+ community, and we are proud to see one of our students being rewarded for their outstanding contribution.”
