Cardiff University alumni wins gold at Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang

Sarah Hoefflin competed in the women’s ski slopestyle event at the Winter Olympic Games, which took place on Saturday. Sarah, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience from Cardiff University in 2013, successfully qualified for the final in seventh position after her two qualifying runs.

In the final, Sarah achieved her highest score on the third run scoring 91.20 to secure the gold medal. Sarah who was representing Switzerland at the Games, got the gold ahead of fellow Swiss teammate Mathilde Gremaud. Isabel Atkin of Great Britain got the bronze medal.

Sarah first started skiing freestyle with Cardiff University Snowsports, entering National and Regional University competitions during her time at Cardiff. After graduating in 2013 she became a full time freestyle skier.

In the current medal table Sarah’s gold has helped Switzerland to 11th place with a total of 7 medals so far. Norway are currently top of the medal table followed by Germany and Canada.
