About us

Based in Cardiff University's exciting new Abacws Building opposite the historic Main College on the Cathays Park campus, Cardiff School of Mathematics traces its origins to the foundations of the University in the late 1880s.

Today we are community of academics and researchers whose reputation and international vision attract undergraduates, postgraduates and research visitors from across the world. With over 60 academic staff, we admit more than 450 students from across the world each year, including:

Research and teaching

Our strategy of hiring world-leading scholars from across the world, together with our commitment to fundamental research and to societal engagement with strategic external partners, enable us to offer teaching that is always inspired by the latest developments in mathematical sciences. A degree from Cardiff School of Mathematics leads to outstanding career opportunities and provides a perfect intellectual foundation for those wishing to proceed to research.

Reputation

Our collaborations with international partners help our research achieve global impact and create industrial opportunities for our students.

University-wide Maths support

The School offers a drop-in service where students with any mathematical question can get help either one-to-one or in a small group. The service is available to all Cardiff University students. It is used by Mathematics students and students from other disciplines with mathematical queries.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity

The School's commitment to international excellence is reflected in the diversity of our people. We hold an Athena SWAN Award and particularly encourage applications from under-represented groups.
