Law, Justice and Society

Our research responds to transformations in communities and cultures, from Wales to the Global South.

We work on issues across crime and security, law and religion, social care, health and medical law, the family and discrimination.

We have expertise in studies of judging and the legal profession. We have a long-standing reputation as a global leader for research in socio-legal studies, and colleagues employ a rich variety of methodologies, including empirical and theoretical approaches.

Our researchers are engaged with organisations including the UN Office of the High Commissioner and Amnesty International, and relevant stakeholder communities, producing interventions that empower the most vulnerable, including people with reduced mental capacity, and those impacted by adverse childhood experiences.
