Eligibility criteria

Postgraduate taught applicants – conditional offer holders

• You must pay your deposit by the deadline stated in your original/first offer. If you are granted a deposit extension you must pay by your new deadline. This applies until 31 July - scholarships will not be awarded to applicants who make their deposit payment after 31 July 2022.
• You must accept your offer and meet all the offer conditions, including any English Language conditions as stated in your offer by 16 September 2022.

Postgraduate taught applicants – unconditional offer holders

• If you are holding an Unconditional Offer, you must confirm this offer as a Firm choice.
• You must pay your deposit by the deadline stated in your original/first offer. If you are granted a deposit extension you must pay by your new deadline. This applies until 31 July - scholarships will not be awarded to applicants who make their deposit payment after 31 July 2022.
• You must also accept your offer by 16 September 2022.

All students

• The Cardiff University – GREAT Scholarship 2022 is available to eligible students studying on selected Postgraduate Taught degree programmes.
• The scholarships are for all Postgraduate Taught degree programmes except for China - where the scholarship is for all Postgraduate Taught degree programmes excluding those in Cardiff Business School, the School of Journalism, Media and Culture, and the School of Computer Science and Informatics.
• Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma awards are not included in the scheme.
• Applications to the scholarship scheme must be submitted by 23:59 (UK time) on 31 May 2022.
• In order to apply, you must have already submitted an application to study at Cardiff University.

Terms and conditions

1. The Cardiff University – GREAT Scholarship 2022 is a £10,000 award applied to students entering into year 1 of a programme. It is applied to your first year of study only.

1.1. This will be awarded in the form of a tuition fee discount only and cannot be used in place of any required deposit. No cash alternative is available.

1.2. Three scholarships of £10,000 will be awarded to students who are nationals of Brunei, China, Mexico or Thailand, with one scholarship awarded per country.

2. The Cardiff University – GREAT Scholarship 2022 is for entry into Cardiff University in the autumn semester of academic year 2022/23 only and cannot be used any other year of entry.

2.1. If you are awarded a scholarship and wish to defer your entry to the University your scholarship will not be transferred. However, you will be eligible to apply for scholarships applicable for 2023/24 entry.

3. Future requests for further funding will not be considered under this scheme.

4. Applicants who are in receipt of any other scholarship, bursary, funding or discount will not be eligible for this Scholarship.

5. The Cardiff University – GREAT Scholarship 2022 is available for full-time and Cardiff campus-based programmes only.

6. You must be confirmed as an Overseas Student for fee paying purposes (this information is contained in your offer letter). If you are assessed as eligible to pay Home fees as the result of a fee query, your fee status will be amended to Home and you will not be eligible for the Cardiff University – GREAT Scholarship 2022.

7. The Cardiff University – GREAT Scholarship 2022 is only available to self-funded students.

7.1. If you are in receipt of funding (consisting of either tuition fees or tuition fees and living costs) from an external body which will be invoiced by the University for fees (such as Government, charity or a private organisation) you are not eligible for the Cardiff University – GREAT Scholarship 2022. Students in receipt of educational loans are eligible for the award.

8. The Cardiff University – GREAT Scholarship 2022 is not available for students who are coming to study at Cardiff University for a semester or full year as part of a degree at another institution.

9. The Cardiff University – GREAT Scholarship 2022 is not available to students who are initially awarded the scholarship but, following enrolment at the University, subsequently transfer to an academic programme which is not eligible for the award of the scholarship.

10. Applicants who are in receipt of any other scholarship, bursary, funding or discount from Cardiff University will only be able to choose one of the awarded scholarships, bursaries, funding or discounts.

11. You must be able to satisfy all financial requirements as part of your visa application for study in the UK. You should not be solely relying on receiving the Cardiff University – GREAT Scholarship 2022 to meet the UKVI financial requirements.

12. Please ensure that you leave sufficient time for your application and supporting documents to be reviewed and processed before the acceptance deadline noted above.
