My background is in Critical care and I have worked in Cardio-thoracic, transplantation and general critical care units. I also worked for many years as a clinical academic in Critical Care, which provided me with some valuable insights into clinical practice.

Modern healthcare is not just about treating a condition or managing an illness, but it is about providing people with the treatment that they need and providing them with the knowledge and support that they need to live healthy and fulfilling lives. In Theaetetus, Plato defined knowledge as the intersection of truth and belief where knowledge cannot be claimed if something is true but not believed or believed but not true. Therefore, I believe that a person has to have the appropriate skills and attitude if they are to interpret the evidence that is available and to use it appropriately to improve their own health and well-being or that of others.

I subscribe to the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen, which is about seeking to continually improve in all that you do. Continually improving the quality of care that patients receive is of prime importance and I am keen to work with anyone an interest in improving the quality and safety that patients receive or the education and training of nurses and other healthcare professionals.
