It is with great sadness that Cardiff Business School announces the death of Mr Martin Evans, Senior Teaching Fellow in Marketing. The thoughts of everyone at the School are with his family and friends at this time.
A much respected colleague of all at the School, Martin made an outstanding contribution to research into interactive and electronic marketing and worked as a consultant to a variety of organisations for over thirty years.
First and foremost, however, he was an educationalist who always put the needs and interests of his students at the top of his priorities. Students at Cardiff, but also at Glamorgan, Portsmouth, Newcastle and the West of England, benefited from his dedication to teaching and to student welfare and he will be remembered with fondness by many of his tutees.
Faculty at the School have paid tribute to him. Professor Gordon Foxall said:
"Martin was a friend and colleague of the highest integrity and industry whom I first met in the early1970s when we were young lecturers in marketing in Newcastle upon Tyne.
"He possessed strong skills in administration and research and his closeness to students was legendary. He was one of the best teachers whose lectures I have attended and he had an enviable ability to engage students with his delivery of both marketing theory and practice that combined the rigour and excitement of each.
"We ate and drank and talked in Newcastle, attended our first marketing conferences together, and then went our ways, occupying posts in other universities until we joined forces again at Cardiff. Yet we never lost touch and kept going a rapport that meant we understood and appreciated each other's viewpoints.
"Martin made enormous contributions to Cardiff Business School, always willing to help and assume responsibilities, always supportive and caring. I shall not be alone in missing him beyond telling."
