Oakwood Timber Tower

Kevin P Flanagan (AIA, MRAIC, FRGS, FRSA), partner at PLP Architecture London, is giving a lecture on the Oakwood Timber Tower proposal for London at the Welsh School of Architecture. “The essence of PLP Architecture’s design is innovation, be it our world’s most sustainable, and smartest building The Edge, improving movement with Skypod and CarTube, and most recently the Oakwood Timber Tower at the Barbican in London, UK, these are all investigations into making our quality of life and cities better. Our team of Cambridge University, PLP Architecture and Smith and Wallwork Engineers, are here investigating the myriad of benefits of cross laminated timber ( CLT) , being modular, quiet and fast to build by comparison to many traditional materials. As a tower, timber has the potential architecturally to create a more pleasing, relaxed, sociable and creative urban experience, free, abundant, renewing and more sustainable. We now live predominantly in cities, the Oakwood Timber Tower proposal has been designed to improve our sense of wellbeing in an urban context.”
