The Welsh School of Architecture invites you to participate in a public debate:

This event, inspired by student work, will consider the transition from university to practice. Some students (and employers) express frustrations with what they see as a gulf between education and the realities of practice.

Is further study the best preparation for a young architect? Others reject the idea that new graduates should fall in line with existing practice and instead should challenge the role, the profession, and the way places could be designed and realised.

A panel of guests representing both academia and practice will lead the discussion and respond to prepared question from the audience:

  • Carole-Ann Davies - Chair (Design Commission for Wales)
  • Dolunay Dogahan (current MArch2 student, WSA)
  • Gerard Evenden (Director Fosters + Partners, WSA alumnus)
  • Harriet Harriss (RCA)
  • Piers Taylor (Invisible Studio, Studio in the Woods)
  • Shankari Raj (Nudge Group)

Doors open at 18:00 with a drinks reception on 2nd Floor Bute Building.

We welcome considered questions for the panel. Please send your suggestions to almondc2@cardiff.ac.uk.

Please note, this is a ticketed event and seats are limited. RSVP without delay to reserve your place!

Tickets are required for entry, either printed or on your smartphone.

We hope you can make it. If you are unable to attend in person, the event will also be live-streamed on Instagram.
