Our speaker on this occasion will be Dr. Padi Fuster Aguilera, from the University of Colorado Boulder (United States of America).

Numerous mathematicians from underrepresented groups report that it was often difficult to identify as a mathematician early on because of the lack of visibility of other mathematicians that shared their cultural identity. This and other factors that play a role in the math identity of individuals from underrepresented groups can be mitigated through proactive countermeasures such as creating spaces and communities where students can feel as they belong and are welcome in mathematics, and creating content spotlighting and amplifying a diverse group of voices within mathematics.

In this talk I will present two of my passion projects around the topic of belonging in mathematics: the Math For All conference and the Meet a Mathematician interview collection. Math For All is a conference with the goal of creating a welcoming environment to enjoy and discuss mathematics. Meet a Mathematician is a collection of video interviews to mathematicians mostly from historically excluded groups in mathematics. Both projects aim to spotlight role models for students from underrepresented groups in mathematics at the same time as highlighting their other identities and career life.

Everybody in the School is most welcome to attend. Looking forward to seeing many of you there!
