Small Business

In this Briefing, we will be joined by Rob Basini from the Federation of Small Businesses in Wales, Jo Roberts of Fabulous Welshcakes and Vicky Mann of Near Me Now and VZTA town centres apps, to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing small businesses in Wales currently.

Following the pandemic, businesses have encountered the long term impacts from lockdowns, a cost of living crisis which has impacted on customers, a cost of doing business crisis, rocketing energy costs, rises in interest rates and inflation, and significant challenges around recruitment and retention of staff. The impacts of Britain leaving the EU continues to affect many businesses in several ways. As businesses look to recover from what’s been such a difficult time for so many, we will also look during this session at what opportunities exist for small businesses to grow.

Rob Basini will give overview of the realities of business life for small businesses in Wales, and will touch on some key indicators, the role governments need to play, and the importance of business support, of Higher and Further Education in developing a skilled and able workforce, and of profit in allowing businesses to continue their journeys towards net zero.
