Effective policymaking in government relies increasingly on scientific evidence and advice. Policy engagement is the means by which researchers and other stakeholders enter into dialogue with policymakers, with the aim of improving public policy and decision-making.

What are the do’s and don’ts of policy engagement and providing scientific advice, and how can ECRs get involved in the process? Join us for our webinar, where we will be discussing the current opportunities and challenges for ECRs to engage, and how we can take collaborative action to facilitate this process moving forward.

The session is targeted at researchers who self-identify as Early Career Researchers, interested in understanding how their research can generate impact beyond their disciplinary areas, and learning practical tips on how to engage with policymakers.

The webinar will be chaired by Professor Ole Petersen CBE FMedSci MAE FLSW FRS, Academic Director, Academia Europaea Cardiff Knowledge Hub

Guest speakers

  • Sarah Chaytor, Universities Policy Engagement Network (UPEN) Co-Chair, and Director of Strategy & Policy for UCL Research, Innovation & Global Engagement
  • Dr Jack Price, Research Associate, Wales Centre for Public Policy (WCPP)
  • Dr Stephany Mazon, Scientific Policy Officer, Young Academies Science Advice Structure (YASAS)

The webinar is co-organised by the Academia Europaea Cardiff Knowledge Hub and the Early Career Researchers Network from the Learned Society of Wales.
