Our Chinese Insights talks, led by tutors from the Cardiff Confucius Institute, are a great opportunity to learn more about Chinese culture and language. From Chinese art, film and music to the Chinese Zodiac and Chinese Characters, there’s something for everyone to discover and enjoy.

This talk features Chinese tea, including:

  • Chinese tea ceremony with the opportunity to taste different teas. Please view the dietary information below.
  • Inside a Chinese tea house

The talk will be delivered in English.

Dietary information
Green Tea
Positive effects

Clearing inflammation, lowering fat and aiding digestion, refreshing the mind and is said to aid prevention of cardiovascular disease.

Do not drink tea if you have:

Insomnia, neurasthenia, hyperthyroidism; people with digestive disorders; pregnant, and if you are breastfeeding.

Types

Emei Mountain Maofeng; Longjing Tea; Biluochun Tea; Xinyang Maojian Tea; Taiping Monkey

Yellow tea
Positive effects

Clearing inflammation and moistening the lungs, combat liver inflammation, excessive grease and stomach ache.

Do not drink tea if you have:

Kidney disorders, tachycardia, neurasthenia.

Types

Junshan Silver Needle Tea (pine needles); Huoshan yellow tea

Dark tea
Positive effects

Lowering fat and aids digestion, combats high blood sugar.

Do not drink tea if you have:

Insomnia, hypertension or are a Vegetarian

Types

Hunan dark tea; Sichuan brick tea; Yunnan pure tea

White tea
Positive effects

Aids digestion, said to be brain-boosting, aids weight loss, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory.

Do not drink tea if you have:

Menstruation, neurasthenia

Types

White Tip Needle; White Peony; Long Brow Tea

Oolong tea
Positive effects

Said to reduce fatty cells in blood, aids weight loss, benefits beauty and skin care, refreshing and reviving the brain.

Do not drink tea if you have:

Anaemia and weakness, neurasthenia, constipation

Types

Wuyi Rock; Red Robe Tea; Cassia Tea; Narcissus; Iron Goddess Tea

Black tea
Positive effects

Suitable for all ages, nourishing the stomach and spleen, eliminating fatigue and generating fluids.

Do not drink tea if you have:

Anaemia and weakness, stomach ache, or are pregnant

Types

Keemun Black; Lapsang Souchong; Jin Jun Mei
