The first Cardiff BookTalk of the 2023-24 season will see us talking to Peruvian journalist Joseph Zárate about his book Wars of the Interior. This prize-winning non-fiction book exposes the tragedy, violence and corruption that characterises the extraction of three of Peru’s most precious resources: gold, oil and wood.
Seen from the point of view of Peru’s indigenous communities and giving voice to local heroes and environmental activists, it offers deep insights into the Amazonian cultures in Peru and the neighbouring countries that are most affected. He will be in conversation with his translator Annie McDermott.
The event will be free to all and held via Zoom.
