Image of Sir Nicholas Kenyon CBE

Over the last century, pioneers in the revival of early musical repertory have changed the way we hear the music of the past. Nicholas Kenyon explores what provoked this change in our understanding of the past, revisits the controversies it provoked, and assesses what the future holds for old music.

Nicholas Kenyon is Opera Critic of the Telegraph and a Visiting Scholar at Pembroke College Cambridge. He was Controller of BBC Radio 3 (1992-1998), Director of the BBC Proms (1996-2007) and Managing Director of the Barbican Centre (2007-2021). He edited the influential volume Authenticity and Early Music (OUP) and was editor of the journal Early Music
