Glamorgan Building, Cardiff University

How do we create places and nurture sustainable communities capable of challenging and redressing racialised exclusions, inequalities and injustices? What kinds of knowledge, skills and capacity are needed to put this into motion? And how can higher education institutions foster this?

The interconnected fields of planning, urban design and human geography have a range of relevant insights, yet much more can be done to translate our critical investigations into practical reality through our research, practice, and teaching.

This event is part of an ongoing process within the School of Geography and Planning seeking to deepen our anti-racist practice, individually and collectively. Using the city of Cardiff as a point of departure, itself shaped by racial tensions and injustices past and present, this event brings together a panel of leading experts in these fields to explore the possibilities and barriers for embedding anti-racist approaches into our ways of operating within and beyond the university.
