Image: Unravelling the origins of cancer

Cancer arises from genetic mutations that include the loss and/or the duplication of large pieces of DNA.

Hear from Professor Duncan Baird, from the School of Medicine, about the work of his team where they’re dissecting the molecular events that lead to these changes in cancer cells. Learn more about how telomeres, which are the sections of DNA found at the end of our chromosomes which carry the genetic material in our cells, play a fundamental role in the process of cancers forming.

We’ll also be joined by Dr Harsh Bhatt, who is examining the role of telomere dysfunction in glioblastoma, the most aggressive type of brain cancer and predicting survival rates for patients.
