The author, Richard King

The twenty fifth anniversary of 1997 referendum that led to the establishment of the Senedd and Welsh Government will be marked at this year's Wales Governance Centre Annual Lecture, to be delivered by acclaimed author Richard King at the iconic Pierhead building in Cardiff Bay.

Published earlier this year, Richard King’s Brittle with Relics: A History of Wales, 1962–97 (Faber) has quickly become one of the most widely read and widely feted books on Wales for many years.

Professor Richard Wyn Jones, Director of Cardiff University’s Wales Governance Centre, commented:

“Richard King’s superb Brittle with relics has made a big impression on both readers and critics alike, and we’re delighted that Richard has agreed to deliver the Wales Governance Centre 2022 Annual Lecture. With the lecture organised the mark a quarter of a century since the referendum in which Welsh electorate voted to approve devolution (if only just!) it’s hard to think of a better person to guide us through the process that led to the establishment of Wales’ devolved institutions or to consider where we might be headed next.”

The lecture, which can be attended free of charge, will be followed by a discussion with the audience. It will also recorded and made available to those that cannot attend. Registration is required for the event which will be held at the Pierhead building in Cardiff Bay on September 14th, 2022.
