Intersecting identities? The experiences of LGBTQ+ speakers of Welsh - Dr Jonathan Morris and Dr Sam Parker

The aim of this paper is to investigate the experiences of LGBTQ+ speakers of the Welsh language. In particular, we will present the main findings of research into how speakers discuss belonging to two minority identities and the extent to which there is overlap between them. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight Welsh speakers who also identify as members of the LGBTQ+ community. First, a thematic analysis of the speakers' experiences of being LGBTQ+ Welsh speakers will be presented. Secondly, we proceed to show how speakers convey the concept of belonging in the way they discuss their experiences.

This seminar will be delivered over Zoom in Welsh with simultaneous English translation available.
