A webinar with guest speaker, Dr Paweł Duber (Nottingham Trent University), co-hosted by the History and Heritage research theme the School of Modern Languages and the Central and Eastern European Research Group at Cardiff University.

Abstract
This lecture will reveal two dimensions of the Polish-Ukrainian relationship. The first dimension deals with the tragic and dividing 20th century history. But the second dimension is based on the cooperation between these two nations living with the imminent danger of Russia and its imperial ambitions. This fact explains the support of Polish political elites for the idea of an independent Ukrainian state separating Poland from Russia. The origins of this support date back to the beginning of the 20th century. Therefore, this second dimension, which is based on cooperation, coexisted with the first one, but has prevailed since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. And it is now more important than ever since 24 February. This shows that, under certain conditions, the two nations can overcome even the difficult, tragic past.
