A Modern Venue Designed To Impress
More than a student hub, the Centre for Student Life is a dynamic, modern and highly flexible venue that hosts a wide range of events throughout the year. The building features the University’s largest lecture theatre, seating up to 550 delegates, alongside generous open-plan social spaces spread across five floors.
Designed to inspire, showcase and bring people together, the Centre for Student Life is ideal for:
- Conferences and symposiums
- Corporate meetings and strategy days
- Product launches and networking events
- Panel discussions, workshops and exhibitions
- Networking breakfasts and dinners with panoramic views of the Civic Centre from the 3rd floor balcony and level 4.
The venue is available for evening and weekend events year-round, and seven days a week during vacation periods.
Putting Sustainability and Practicality at the Forefront
Sustainability was at the forefront of the Centre for Student Life’s design. The building focuses on reducing energy consumption, using energy efficiently and incorporating renewable technologies wherever possible, helping to minimise its carbon footprint.
Events benefit from state-of-the-art AV technology, adaptable room layouts, professional AV and technical support, and a dedicated events team to ensure everything runs smoothly and professionally.
From the moment guests arrive, the building makes a statement. Its striking contemporary architecture is complemented by the surrounding historic Portland stone buildings, creating a unique and memorable setting.
Two Venues, One Exceptional Experience
Looking for a more historic venue? Many larger events host their main plenary sessions in the Centre for Student Life alongside utilising the facilities in our Grade II listed Main Building, situated directly opposite. Steeped in heritage, the Main Building offers:
- Additional breakout rooms and lecture theatres
- Executive board meeting spaces
- Elegant areas for drinks receptions
This dual-venue approach provides the perfect balance of modern efficiency and historic character. The Centre for Student Life delivers innovation and functionality, while the Main Building adds impact, inspiration and timeless elegance – together creating a conference experience that is both practical and unforgettable.

Our stunning campus and distinctive buildings are not only loved by students, staff and event organisers, they are also a popular choice for film and television productions.
Productions make use of both our exterior spaces and our ornately decorated rooms, corridors, lecture theatres and catering venues. We are proud to have hosted productions including:
