The historic Glamorgan Building
Of all the venues we work with, the Glamorgan Building holds a special place in my heart. Few spaces manage to combine such architectural grandeur, practical flexibility and a genuine sense of occasion so well.
From the moment you arrive, the building makes an impression.
Its grand entrance, classical style and imposing columns create an immediate ‘wow factor’ that sets the tone for any event. As a Grade 1 listed building with more than a century of history woven into its walls, it offers a sense of gravitas that simply can’t be replicated in a modern space. Yet despite its heritage, the Glamorgan Building is adaptable to contemporary events.
One of its greatest strengths is the layout.
The two adjoining committee rooms are incredibly versatile, separated by a sliding door that allows them to function as both one large space or two distinct rooms. This makes them ideal for conferences, training days and multi-format events.
A favourite feature of mine is how seamlessly hospitality can be delivered.
The smaller committee room is often used for catering, allowing refreshments, buffets and service to be set up and cleared discreetly without disturbing the main event. It’s a small detail that makes a huge difference to the delegate experience.
These rooms also lend themselves beautifully to dining. We have hosted some truly memorable dinners here, with the committee rooms accommodating up to 80 guests seated, or up to 120 for a standing buffet. The setting adds an understated elegance that elevates any meal, whether it’s a formal dinner or a relaxed networking event.
Beyond these headline spaces, the building offers an impressive range of seminar rooms and lecture theatres.
Which can seat anywhere from 16 up to over 100 delegates. This variety means events can scale up or down with ease, all within one cohesive venue.
Next door, the Council Chamber provides a charming lecture theatre space, perfect for keynote sessions, talks and larger presentations. With fixed seating for up to 88 delegates and full audio-visual facilities, it works brilliantly as the main plenary space for conferences. Having the committee rooms immediately adjacent as breakout areas makes delegate flow effortless and keeps events running smoothly.
What truly sets the Glamorgan Building apart, however, is the way its history enhances every event held within it.
This has become a feature in several film features, such as Young Sherlock, etc . For me, the Glamorgan Building perfectly balances beauty, flexibility and functionality. It’s a venue that feels special the moment you step inside – and one that consistently delivers exceptional events, whatever the brief.
