40th Anniversary Football Tournament

The Staff and Journaliusm, Media and Cultural Studies (JOMEC) Old Boys 11aside football teams last met in November 2007 when the Staff team won a narrow 1-0 victory. This weekend the teams will meet again, competing this time with current JOMEC Diploma Students for the title of JOMEC 40th Anniversary Football Champions.
The tournament between JOMEC Old Boys, Staff and Students will be held on Saturday afternoon, 16th October, on the University pitch on Pontcanna fields – just outside the Talybont Sports Village. Please come along and support the teams as they battle it out for the trophy and in celebration of the 40th year of JOMEC’s Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism.
Tournament Schedule
12.00 - : Talybont Social opens: bar and toilets available for spectators throughout tournament
12.30 - 1.30: Players Change, arrive at pitch and warm up
1.30 - 2.05: Game 1: Old Boys –v- Students
2.15 - 2.50: Game 2: Students –v- Staff
3.00 - 3.35: Game 3: Staff –v- Old Boys
3.40 - 4.00: Penalties (if necessary)
4.15pm: Talybont Social bar open for purchase of drinks/refreshments. Free buffet for players.
4.30pm: Announcement of Tournament Results and Presentation of Trophy
Tournament Rules
Games will be 15 minutes each way, with only a few minutes max between each half to change ends. There will be 10 minutes break between games for refreshments and recovery.
Normal 11aside football rules otherwise apply and be officiated by the tournament referee.
Points
- 3 points will be awarded for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a defeat.
- In the event of equal points (e.g. of all matches draw, or two teams win one and draw one match), the winner will be decided on goal difference.
- If the winner cannot be decided on goal difference, the winning team will be decided by penalty shoot out.

Directions to Talybont
From the East
Proceed along the M4 and exit at J29, A48(M). Continue ahead onto A48, Eastern Avenue. Travel for approx. 5 miles and after the Heath Hospital (on your right) proceed under the flyover onto Western Avenue. At next set of traffic lights (Tesco Extra turnoff) turn left into Excelsior Road. At the roundabout take the first left and immediate first right into Talybont.
From the West
Proceed along the M4 and exit at J32. Take fourth exit off roundabout (signposted City Centre). Continue ahead onto A470 Northern Avenue/Manor Way. Travel for approx. 2 miles and at the sixth set of traffic lights opposite Mujib's Bar and Restaurant keep in the middle lane. Proceed round the roundabout alongside the flyover. Take right hand lane under the flyover. Take the fourth exit off the roundabout onto A48 Western Avenue. At next set of traffic lights (Tesco Extra turnoff) turn left into Excelsior Road. At the roundabout take the first left and immediate first right into Talybont
From the City Centre
From the Hilton Hotel proceed along North Road (the A470) in the direction of Maindy Pool (away from the City Centre).
At the Tesco metro, turn left and follow the road a short distance until you reach the entrance to Talybont on your left.
Directions to the Pitch on Pontcanna Fields (Bute Park)
Leave Talybont on foot by the exit adjacent to the social centre.
Turn right, heading downhill towards the river. At the river path, turn left and you will see a footbridge a short distance away.
Cross the bridge and the tournament pitch is on the right.
