Youth Advisory Group

We have exciting opportunities available for young people to get involved in our research.

The Wolfson Centre wants to put the experiences and voices of young people at the heart of our work.

We are regularly looking to recruit young people aged 14-25, with lived mental health experience, to join our two Youth Advisory Groups.

Group members get a chance to be an active part of a major new research initiative in young people’s mental health.

How to help us

By joining the Wolfson Centre’s Youth Advisory Group, you will:

  • Help shape the Centre’s work by advising on the research questions that are important to young people.
  • Advise us on how we undertake our research.
  • Assist us in understanding what the research findings mean for young people.
  • Suggest how the findings could be used to improve what happens in real life for young people with lived mental health experiences.

What’s involved?

We hold a series of regular online meetings, once a month, where a small group of young people are invited to share views on priorities and to advise us on research about young people’s mental health.

Why join us?

In return for being part of our advisory group, you will:

Have your voice heard

  • Your views can directly impact mental health policy here in Wales. Your opinion will be fed back to  partners in our Implementation and Engagement Board which includes advisors to Welsh Government, policymakers and charities that support young people’s mental health, as well as people who work for and with young people like doctors and psychologists.

Learn new skills

  • Receive training in research methods as you advise us on our work, through tasks such as examining grant applications or contributing to sessions with our scientific researchers.

Boost your CV

  • We can provide opportunities to develop other skills that may be of interest to you, including CV writing, chairing a meeting, and producing digital content for our web and social media platforms.

We understand that your time is valuable. Group members will receive a £20 voucher for taking part in each session.

If you have any queries about the advisory group or have any concerns you would like to discuss with us, you can talk to a member of the research team.
