Welsh Language Student Mentoring Scheme

The Welsh Language Student Mentoring Scheme is a pilot project for mentoring pupils aged 13-15 in Welsh and English medium schools.

We will place university students in secondary schools in order to raise pupils’ aspirations with regard to Higher Education and spur enthusiasm for both Welsh as a subject and languages in general, with the aim of increasing the number of pupils that choose to study Welsh at A Level, and beyond.

The project also works in accordance with the principles of Curriculum for Wales 2022, to raise pupils’ expectations, increase their motivation and expand their horizons by highlighting study and career opportunities available to pupils who choose Welsh at A Level.

The project is a partnership between the Universities of Cardiff, Bangor, Swansea and Aberystwyth, and is financed by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol through the Welsh in Education Fund.

Contact Cadi Thomas for more information about the pilot project and future developments.
