Research affiliates

A key function of the Sustainable Places Research Institute is to encourage and facilitate collaboration and interdisciplinary research.

The Institute has a number of affiliates, ranging from students and academics to practitioners, from a wide range of disciplines.

We welcome interest from researchers or individuals whose focus lies within the broader aims and our objectives. We want to bring together individuals who work alongside each other to develop innovative research and discover new applications in an inspiring and collaborative environment.

Our approach

Our affiliate model is based on actively encouraging engagement in relevant research that PLACE undertake. We welcome interest from researchers or individuals whose focus lies within our broader aims and objectives.

What we offer

  • Hot desks: Access to a desk within our building and use of WiFi.
  • Credibility: You will be able to link with us on your website and marketing materials. You will also be listed on the our website.
  • Knowledge sharing: You will be invited to participate in our seminar series, distinguished lectures as well as other networking events organised throughout the year. This provides the opportunity to work with key researchers in a growing field and to participate and learn from discussions.
  • Communications: We can promote your work and your publications through various internal and external platforms (including Twitter, Linkedin and monthly newsletters).
  • Income generation opportunities: You may be invited to participate in external grant opportunities or CPD training in collaboration with us.
  • Collaboration: We will turn to our affiliate list first if we are seeking collaborations for a publication of research grant.

The process

Affiliate appointments are made by the the Sustainable Places Director for a specified time period. Individuals who wish to become a Sustainable Places affiliate should email sustainableplaces@cardiff.ac.uk with the following information:

  • title and name
  • research interests:
  • what benefits do you think being a PLACE affiliate will bring, to yourself and to Sustainable Places.

Affiliate expectations

As an affiliate, you are encouraged to:

  • have an active programme of sustainability research
  • be actively involved in Sustainable Places through attending seminars, presenting your research, participating in interest groups and possibly mentoring junior members of staff
  • actively respond to requests for information/support
  • actively promote Sustainable Places by re-tweeting or re-sharing relevant information to your networks
  • publish in high impact factor journals, citing Sustainable Places, if relevant

Who we collaborate with

Sustainable Places is a joint collaboration between the Schools of:
