Our videos

Studying journalism, communications and the media at Cardiff University

The first thing you need to know is that all of our undergraduate programmes are primarily academic, theoretical programmes, which teach you more about journalism, media and the cultural Industries than they train you how to be a journalist, TV producer or film maker.

Media matters

The media industry defines our culture and how we live. Therefore, training people with the appropriate skills and strong values to work in the media industry is critically important and requires centres of excellence like Cardiff University to research and understand the modern media industry.

There are opportunities to speak to industry professionals throughout your degree, and the working relationship between lecturers and students is first-class.

Get involved in our media channels

Four media channels, managed by the Students' Union, provide you with a great way to develop your media skills. Dedicated teams of students produce Gair Rhydd our weekly newspaper, Quench our lifestyle magazine, Xpress radio and Cardiff Union TV.

Cardiff is a great choice. The university itself is a great space for learning and growing, while the city is also very welcoming. I enjoyed the layout of the school, where there are areas dedicated to studies and relaxation.
