Microbial Diseases

Within the Microbial Disease Research Group there is a strong focus on investigating the involvement and management of biofilms in clinical infection.

These include biofilms not only within the oral cavity (e.g. dental plaque, denture biofilms, endodontic biofilms) but also at other body sites including chronic wounds, catheter associated-urinary tract infections, respiratory disease and infections of prosthetic joints.

We would therefore be interested in supervising projects that explore biofilm microbial composition and species interaction, immune responses to biofilms, biofilm pathogenicity, and strategies to combat biofilm development or promote their eradication.
