Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarships (KESS2)
Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarships (KESS2) supports doctoral, MPhil and research master's degree qualifications in all Welsh universities, jointly sponsored by external partners from Wales.
Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarships (KESS 2) is a major pan-Wales operation supported by European Social Funds (ESF) through the Welsh Government. KESS 2 links companies and organisations with academic expertise in the Higher Education sector in Wales to undertake collaborative research projects, working towards a PhD or Research Masters qualification. Research elements are integrated with a higher-level skills training programme, leading to a Postgraduate Skills Development Award.
In response to the new UKRI eligibility criteria, we are pleased to announce that we will be offering International fee discounts for successful UKRI applicants. The fees will be discounted to the home fees level. This approach ensures that students regardless of nationality or financial means will be able to apply for our prestigious UKRI studentships. Successful applicants will receive a fully-funded studentship and will not be charged the international fee difference.

- Low Carbon, Energy & Environment
- ICT & the Digital Economy
KESS 2 is a pan-Wales higher-level skills initiative led by Bangor University, together with Cardiff University, Aberystwyth University, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Swansea University, University of Trinity Saint David and University of South Wales.
KESS 2 DTP studentships are part-funded by the Welsh Government’s European Social Fund (ESF). KESS 2 DTP also has over 60 industry partners, including Ortho- Clinical Diagnostics Ltd, Cultech Ltd, Micropharm Ltd and NappieCycle Ltd.
