The course was challenging, engaging and provided a mix of theoretical understanding and practical tools to begin my career in operational research. I spent the summer completing my dissertation at the University of Twente (Netherlands) working on a scheduling problem with a hospital partner. This was a very rewarding experience and gave me an excellent opportunity to use my new skills, tackling a real world problem. After such a positive experience with Cardiff University, I am now studying for my PhD, working in partnership with a local health board to use patient level data to inform decision making.
