Why study with us
A postgraduate journalism, media or communications degree from Cardiff University is widely recognised as a stamp of quality. Our mission is to foster a unique, enriching interplay between ‘theory’ and ‘practice’, whether in the realm of professional skills or cutting-edge research.
We're top ranked
The 2020 QS World University Rankings by Subject placed us in its top five schools for Communication and Media Studies in the UK, and top 25 in the world.
Taught by experts
Our expert and experienced staff include some of the world’s leading writers, researchers and thinkers as well as professional colleagues from journalism, public relations and the media.
Well connected
You’ll be based in the heart of Cardiff’s vibrant media quarter in a purpose-built facility adjacent to the new BBC Cymru/Wales building.
Our videos
The Broadcast Journalism course has prepared me both on a technical and psychological level. It gives you a stamina and a critical edge that is good preparation for the newsroom. Not only can we spot a story, we can shoot it, edit it, produce it and direct it and I’d say we’ve been exceptionally well prepared for selling ourselves and our skills to potential employers.
Learn more about us
I was able learn multiple digital skills and I’d say I’m suited to digital literacy now. I have experience in digital networking, critically reading and creating media content and finding and selecting data for learning and research. My degree will help me to secure an ideal job in sectors such as media, culture, politics and business.

300 seat lecture theatre, six newsrooms, two TV studios and two radio studios
In September 2018, we moved into a new purpose-built home located in Cardiff’s all-new Central Square development.
This location, in the heart of the city, has created a renewed and invigorated sense of our place at the heart of Cardiff’s cultural and media industries.
We are just a minute’s walk from Cardiff’s main train station, Cardiff Central, providing excellent transportation links on our doorstep.
