Welsh Government master’s funding for 2018/19
The Welsh Government has made extra funding available to Welsh universities to support postgraduate education for the academic year 2018/19.
Full details have now been confirmed on how you can secure this funding. Please see the 'How to apply' section below.
At Cardiff, this package of support will be in the form of a tuition fee discount of £3,400 to eligible Welsh and EU (Non-UK) students starting a master’s course in September 2018.
Eligibility for the support package is the same as for the Postgraduate loan for Welsh and EU (Non-UK) residents, in particular the personal and course eligibility criteria.
If you are an English resident and therefore eligible for the Postgraduate loan for English residents then you don't qualify for this funding.
How to apply
You will be awarded the funding if you can demonstrate that you meet the eligibility criteria in one of two ways, as outlined below.
If you are also applying for a postgraduate loan
When you have applied for the Postgraduate loan for Welsh and EU (Non-UK) residents with the Student Loans Company (SLC), had your eligibility confirmed, and Cardiff University has received confirmation from the SLC, you will then be automatically awarded the funding. This will be before your course starts. You don't need to do anything else to receive this funding once you have applied for the Postgraduate Loan.
If you are not applying for a postgraduate loan
If you don't plan on applying for the Postgraduate loan for Welsh and EU (Non-UK) residents then you will need to provide evidence of your residency eligibility and sign a declaration that you do not already have a Master's, equivalent or higher award to be awarded this funding. You will need to do this at enrolment.
