Advanced Materials Summer School

Advanced materials are inherent in current and future technologies. In this summer school, three of our Academic Schools will give you an insight into a range of materials and their applications from the fundamental to practical from the perspective of chemistry, engineering and physics.
Our summer school offers advanced undergraduates and recent graduates the opportunity to develop their knowledge of advanced materials and gain first-hand experience of laboratory work and industrial application.
In this multi-disciplinary summer school, you will be studying in our high-quality facilities, located in both Cardiff University’s Main Building and our multi-million-pound Queen’s Building complex.
Our School of Chemistry will lead on organic electric materials, materials characterisation and modern microporous materials.
Whilst studying in our School of Engineering, you will learn about characterising materials with microwaves, compound semiconductors in a world of communications and damage detection in advanced materials using acoustic emission.
With the School of Physics and Astronomy, you will gain an understanding of Compound Semiconductor Physics, THz Physics and Metamaterials and Diamonds, Magnetics Materials and Optoelectronics.
In addition to a fantastic learning experience, our Advanced Materials summer school includes accommodation in the centre of the city, cultural trips across the UK and entertaining social events in our vibrant Welsh capital. Our summer school will give you the chance to immerse yourself in British culture and travel the UK with new friends from all across the world.

The fee for the Summer School is £1,995.
- tuition fees
- 10 meals per week (breakfast and lunch, Monday to Friday)
- airport pick up and drop off from Heathrow Airport on fixed dates (pick up is on 20 July, drop off is on 3 August)
- excursions organised by Cardiff University (such as Stonehenge and industrial visits).
