Building a business with the Enterprise Team
Discover Lucy’s story and her experience as a student.
Meet Lucy, Law graduate and owner of Lolli Lifting. Lucy worked closely with the Enterprise Team in Student Futures, completing the Start-Up Pathway and gaining funding for her business through one of the team’s Start-Up Competitions.
“The Enterprise and Start-Up Team have been incredible during my business journey! I have taken part in the Enterprise pathway and had 1-1 mentor sessions with Paula Burns.
“Following a successful pitch to the judges, I then went on to be the Santander Start-Up Awards Winner in 2023, which won my business Lolli Lifting £5,000! I am very grateful to the Enterprise team for all the support they have given me and would encourage anyone to take part in the workshops, pathways and awards.”
Lucy's experience
“I found the pathway extremely helpful; it was very well organised and allowed me to consider the long-term goals of where I wanted my business to go in the future. I even have my own business plan now, and it has been very useful to have.
“The pathway also allowed me to get in contact with the fantastic mentor Paula Burns, who gave me some great advice for the next steps of my business. She also instilled great confidence in me. I enjoyed being a finalist in the Santander Start-Up Awards the most!
“My business would not be where it is today without the funding, and I really enjoyed pitching to the judges – it felt like I was on Cardiff University’s own version of Dragon’s Den!”
“Running a business was all new to me, and I was drawn to the activities by just wanting to learn more. I wanted to ensure that my business was a success, and through taking part, I have been provided with a lot of advice, which has been so beneficial to my business growth. There is so much to learn, and the Enterprise team is there to guide you every step of the way.”
