Cloud Server

The School of Computer Science and Informatics Cloud is an OpenStack deployment consisting of over 150 cores of computing power, 300 GB of memory, and nearly 20TB of storage.

Originally created using funding for the Sintero project funded by the Wellcome Trust, it has served as a base for several projects serving to help explore distributed systems, as well as providing on demand compute resources to aid in development and research.

OpenStack provides several SaaS and IaaS features, comparable to those of Amazons AWS. It also provides the Sahara service, which provides on demand and automated creation of Hadoop clusters, with the ability to scale up or down as requirements change.
