A 6-session introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity of AI, Tech Innovation, and Entrepreneurship in the age of AI.

About the programme

Digital Transformation for Young Professionals in Latin America: Online Training Programme is a programme created to expand access and skills to young professionals in Latin America.

This fully funded programme offers participants a comprehensive introduction to AI, Cybersecurity of AI, Tech Innovation, and Entrepreneurship in the age of AI.

Through the online training programme, participants aged 18-25 will gain skills in fields that are increasingly vital to national development and global competitiveness, foster innovation, and increase their employability.

What to expect

The programme will be led by world-class academics from the Cardiff University School of Computer Science Informatics, the Hartree Centre Cardiff Hub and Cardiff Business School.

During the 6 online sessions, participants will learn about:

Session 1: Fundamentals of AI and Generative AI, and Prompt Engineering

  • What is AI? Key terminology explained
  • Understanding Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs)
  • Real-world examples of AI in everyday life
  • How to communicate effectively with AI tools
  • Crafting prompts for better results
  • Hands-on exercises with chatbots and image generators
  • Team-building activities

Session 2: AI for Productivity

  • Personal AI assistants
  • Tools overview (e.g., chatbots, scheduling, summarisation)
  • Ethics of AI

Session 3: AI Applications in Industry (Part 1)

  • AI for Creativity and Digital Marketing: image and video generation, digital twins, personalised marketing
  • AI for Events and Tourism sector: historical data insights, smart event planning, immersive tourism experiences

Session 4: AI Applications in Industry (Part 2), Cyber Security of AI and Responsible AI

  • AI for Education, Skills and Talent sector: Personalised Learning, Talent Matching
  • Cyber Security and Privacy of AI
  • AI for cyber security
  • Responsible and Ethical AI
  • Group work

Session 5: Entrepreneurship and innovation with AI

  • Entrepreneurship and innovation with AI
  • Brainstorming: “your AI-powered business idea”

Session 6: AI and You

  • AI’s impact on the labour market: how jobs and skills are changing
  • Flash presentations from industry experts who innovated with AI
  • Discussions in small groups with academics from Cardiff University and industry experts

There will also be group work, hands-on activities, and team building delivered on Cardiff Business School’s Virtual Executive Teaching Suite (VETS).

Who is it for?

This course is a perfect opportunity for young professionals in Latin America between the ages of 18 and 25 to experience UK-led education delivered by world-class academics and to boost their employability skills with highly sought-after AI skill.

We particularly encourage applications from individuals belonging to groups that are underrepresented in STEM.

  • Miguel Guirao
    Miguel Guirao is a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at New Mexico State University whose research focuses on machine learning, AI safety, and cybersecurity, with work published in international venues such as ACM Asia CCS.

    With over 20 years of industry and academic experience, he combines deep technical expertise, multiple professional certifications, and active research to address challenges in secure and responsible AI deployment.

  • Fabricio A. Suárez
    Fabricio A. Suárez is a technology executive and faculty member with over 20 years of experience leading digital transformation, enterprise systems implementations, and AI‑driven solution development.

    As CIO of Grupo Mayaland and a professor at Universidad Anáhuac Mayab, he integrates industry practice into applied teaching in software development, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence while pursuing a Ph.D. in Technology Management and Innovation.

  • Pablo Alvarez Tostado
    Pablo Alvarez Tostado is a technology and innovation leader with over 18 years of experience driving cybersecurity initiatives, digital transformation projects, and academic‑industry collaboration across government, academia, and multinational organizations.

    As co-founder of Zevorus and a faculty member at Anáhuac Mayab University, he integrates real‑world expertise in innovation, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies into teaching and consulting while continuing to lead state‑level technology programs and international projects.

  • Prompting skills: how to communicate effectively with AI tools and write prompts that produce better results
  • Hands-on practice with AI tools: practical exercises using chatbots and image generators
  • AI for workplace productivity: how AI assistants and common tools can support drafting, summarising, planning, and other day-to-day tasks
  • How AI is used across industries: applications in creativity and digital marketing (e.g., image/video generation, digital twins, personalised marketing) and in events/tourism (e.g., data-driven insights, smart planning, immersive experiences)
  • Cybersecurity and privacy of AI: essential security and privacy considerations when using AI, and how AI can support cybersecurity
  • Innovation and entrepreneurship with AI: how to generate, test, and refine an AI-powered business idea
  • AI and your career: how AI is changing roles and skills, informed by expert talks and discussions with academics and industry professionals
  • Collaboration, networking, and presenting with confidence: group work, team-building activities, and interactive learning experiences

This pilot programme is fully funded by British Council Mexico. There is no attendance fee for participants.
