Higher Education Leadership Development Programme
In 2018, Cardiff Business School recently delivered the second year of a Higher Education Leadership Development Programme for Kuwait University.
The Business School provided a five-day customised leadership programme for 10 management and supervisor level staff and covered topics such as time management, HR development, and innovation management.
The training consisted of presentations to impart new knowledge, group discussions to ensure all new concepts were clearly understood, case studies, and external visits.
The bespoke programme included teaching derived from the very latest thinking from highly experienced academics from the Business school including Sarah Hurlow, Rob Morgan, Aoife McDermott, and Rachel Williams.

OTB Life Sciences
Integrated Medical Education Programme
This programme was developed to educate Primary Care Physicians and Family Medicine Physicians on diabetes management and related comorbidities.
It was delivered to 250 participants across six sites across the Middle East (Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE, Oman) .
The objectives included:
- highlighting the recent guidelines and updates in Diabetes Management
- educating Physicians on management of Diabetes, including complicated cases
- educating Physicians on related comorbidities and complications of Diabetes
- certifying participants that successfully completed the programme.
China Scholarship Council (CSC)
University Management and Innovation Programme
Over the period of three years from 2016, the University was chosen to deliver annual bespoke programmes for senior University leadership delegates, thanks to our strategic relationship with the China Scholarship Council.
Following the successful delivery of the first CSC Executive Training programme for 34 senior managers from Chinese universities in 2016, the second three-month course was delivered in summer 2017 to 53 delegates, and the third in summer 2018 to 106 delegates. The programme was coordinated by Cardiff University’s Continuing Professional Development unit and the Executive Education team.
The theme of the programme was leadership and management in a university context, with a particular focus on innovation. The delegates worked in mid and senior management roles in a range of universities in China, mostly at Head of School/College or Head of Professional Services department level. The CSC reported 200% over-subscription for places on the Cardiff based programme, in part as a result of very positive delegate feedback.

Chengdu Administration Institute, China
Leadership and Management Programme
In 2015, Cardiff University delivered an intensive, interactive two-week programme to 10 civil servants from China. There was a particular focus on sector challenges facing the UK and how these can be applied in a Chinese context. In addition to the formal training sessions, guest speakers, case studies and networking events were arranged. The key themes covered were:
- Service Management
- Leading and managing change
- Managing people
- Employee engagement
Automotive Components Manufacturer Association of India (ACMA)
Logistics and Operations Management Programme
In 2017, Cardiff Business School at Cardiff University developed and delivered a Logistics and Operations Management training programme for executives in the Indian Automotive Sector.
Building on the existing research collaboration between Cardiff Business School and ACMA, the training addressed the need for companies in the sector to look beyond the immediate management issues in order to deliver a long-term strategy to cope with the huge changes sweeping through the industry. The training included mentoring, and focused on lean, quality improvement and productivity, leadership, and innovation.
Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC)
Innovative Leadership Executive Education Programme
Cardiff Business School at Cardiff University partnered the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta to create a bespoke learning programme for a delegation from NASA, Government of India. The programme focused on areas such as lean thinking, innovative practices in data, managing psychological contracts, and leading service change and managing resistance productivity.
University of Malawi
Scanning Electron Microscopy and Microanalysis
This short training programme for Scanning Electron Microscopy and Microanalysis was created as part of the review of the University of Malawi's syllabus, a project set up by The World Bank.
The aim of the programme is to lift Malawi out of poverty through development of its mining industry.
MIM Research Development Pty Limited (MIMRD)
21st Century Structural Geology for Exploration and Mining
This series of short courses was designed to refresh and update professionals in the latest developments in structural geology and their application to exploration and mining Geology.
They were developed for MIM Resource Development Pty Limited (MIMRD) by Professor Blenkinsop.
The programme presented a range topics that were well received by the team, with a good focus on how structural elements are important in mineralisation genesis and geometric control. There was a strong focus on practical elements that could be implemented within the exploration environment.
In particular, the demonstration of the use of kenometers and other core protractors to measure complex lines and planes on drillcore, and the associated calculations using the Cor! spreadsheet was seen as critical, as previously these measurements have been difficult to perform with existing skill sets. This has had immediate impact on the data collected from drill core.
The primary aim of the consultancy was to provide assistance with the structural interpretation of a very complex early stage exploration project. Work included both drill core logging/measurements and field mapping.
Despite some delays due to weather, some very significant advances in the understanding of the structural elements of the prospect area was achieved. This will have significant impact on the interpretation of recent drilling and the exploration strategy in the future.
