A bespoke trauma education blended learning course, designed for doctors, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals involved in acute trauma care.

The course is equivalent to 25 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours.

Who it’s for

This course is designed specifically for healthcare professionals involved in acute trauma care. Doctors, Nurses, Trauma Nurse practitioners, and Allied Health Professionals managing acute trauma will find this course relevant and applicable to their clinical practice.

Course content has been created in alignment with national trauma guidelines, nursing and medical curricular requirements, and the South Wales Trauma Network (SWTN) standard operating procedures. The content is appropriate for healthcare professionals working both within Wales and throughout the rest of the UK.

What you’ll learn

The overall aim of the course is to ensure that high quality trauma care is delivered to patients, through the provision of relevant and contemporary trauma education. By completing this course, you will develop competency in managing acute trauma relevant to your clinical role.

This blended learning course has been carefully designed so that you can complete the eLearning component in your own time, with a one-day face-to-face session delivered by clinicians and nursing faculty experienced in acute trauma care and medical education. The in-person session also allows for group discussion and networking.

Topics covered

The MTLS course structure consists of the following 3 components:

Content:            5 simulated skill sessions to rotate around

eLearning

eLearning content has been created by clinicians and allied healthcare professionals experienced in the field of emergency trauma management, and reviewed by medical educationalists.

You will complete the e-learning in advance of the face-to-face session; this element is designed so that you can study around your existing work and personal commitments.

This session is delivered by clinicians and nursing faculty experienced in acute trauma care and medical education, and will be held at the Emergency Medicine Academic Centre (EMAC) at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

You will receive a completion certificate upon completing this component.

Assessment

Following completion of both the eLearning and face-to-face elements of the MTLS course, you will complete a short online assessment.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must fulfil the following criteria to be considered eligible for the MTLS course:

  • doctor, nurse or allied healthcare professional managing acute trauma
  • meet the English language requirements as per NHS Health Careers
  • have access to a device with high speed internet

You will need access to a device with high-speed internet to complete the e-learning part of this course.
