What you’ll learn

Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is a motor skills disorder that affects 5-6% of the population. DCD has been described by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) as occurring when “…the acquisition and execution of coordinated motor skills is substantially below that expected given the individual’s chronological age and opportunity for skill learning and use” (American Psychiatric Association, 2013, p.74). There is also evidence of DCD being associated with reduced levels of physical activity and other physical and mental health problems.

Topics covered

The conference will include keynote talks from Dr Carolyn Dunford (Senior Lecturer at Brunel University and Occupational Therapist) and Dr Emma Sumner (University College London, Institute of Education).
