Overview

I am Director of the Hartree Centre | Cardiff Hub, Co-Director of Cardiff University's Security, Crime and Intelligence Innovation Institute, and Deputy Head of the School of Computer Science and Informatics.

I served as the UK Academic Technical Area Lead for the US/UK Distributed Analytics and Information Sciences International Technology Alliance (DAIS ITA, 2016-2021) funded by the US & UK Governments and led by IBM. Previously, I served in the same role for the Network and Information Sciences International Technology Alliance (NIS ITA, 2006-2016). I currently lead multiple projects exploiting the DAIS and NIS ITA fundamental research results.

Biography

I obtained my BSc and PhD in computer science from Swansea, after which I spent five post-doctoral years in Canada (at Concordia University, Montréal) and France (at the University of Savoie, Chambéry). Returning to the UK in 1994, I spent 13 years at the University of Aberdeen in Computing Science. In December 2007 I joined Cardiff University as Professor of Intelligent Systems and Director of Research in the School of Computer Science and Informatics.

My research focuses on techniques for information provisioning and decision-support in complex environments centred on human-computer collaboration and human-machine teams.
