Member of the School's Pharmacy Practice & Clinical Pharmacy Research Discipline.

My research interests include the development of the expanding role of pharmacists, such as pharmacist prescribing.  The views of heath care professionals and patients on this expanding role, how it is implemented and how it affects practice are of particular interest.

Biography

I completed my Master of Pharmacy degree with first class honours in Cardiff University in 2001. I then undertook my pre-registration training within a hospital pharmacy department in North Wales. During my final year of the undergraduate programme I completed a research project and developed a real interest in practice research. When I completed my pre-registration year and registred with the General Pharmaceutical Council (Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain as it was then) in 2002 I took the opportunity to return to Cardiff to start my PhD. This focussed on non-medical prescribers and the journey of the very first pharmacist supplemetary prescribers to train in Wales. I graduated with my PhD in 2006. Later that same year I was appointed as a lecturer in pharmacy practice and have since been promoted to Senior Lecturer. 

My roles within the school are varied and include teaching and assessment in each year of the MPharm course. I am the chair of the School Research Ethics Committee and maintain an active research role, supervising both final year undergraduate projects and PhD students.

My main area of research is non-medical prescribing and the expanding role of the pharmacist. Over the last 15 years the role of the pharmacist has changed dramatically and will continue to do so over the coming years. It is therefore important that we understand how the role is evolving, taking into account the views of both the pharmacists themselves and other stakeholders.
