Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Overview

I am a Post Doctoral Research Associate with Dr. Charles Heard (School of Pharmacy) and Prof. Alastair Sloan (School of Dentistry). My project is focused on generating medicinal films to treat gingivitis. To this aim I am undertaking techniques such as microbiology, the culture of gingival tissue models and immunohistochemistry.

Biography

I completed my PhD in the School of Dentistry, supervised by Prof. Phil Stephens, Dr. Lindsay Davies and Prof. Alastair Sloan. I was investigating the antibacterial properties of oral mucosal stem cells, undertaking techniques in areas such as microbiology, cell culture, proteomics and molecular biology. I then went on to complete a 6-month MRC CiC funded project, developing a novel antimicrobial dental cement with Prof. Alastair Sloan. During this project incorporated liposomes within the cements in addition to performing biomechanical and antimicrobial analysis of the cements.
